Mariusz Szczygieł o psaní a Cimrmanovi

Neil Gaiman on Writing

Tell your story. Don’t try and tell the stories that other people can tell. Because [as a] starting writer, you always start out with other people’s voices — you’ve been reading other people for years… But, as quickly as you can, start telling the stories that only you can tell — because there will always be better writers than you, there will always be smarter writers than you … but you are the only you.

I’m very, very, very busy last days, earning money, actually, and very, very tired after coming home. That’s why I do not write that much.

Most famous light bulb moments just come to me in the morning which is not good b/c in the morning I’m really in a hurry.

However. Here you can hear the whole Gaiman’s philosophy on writing.

A warm welcome to all my new readers, followers and likers!

12 Letter Papers for Little Philosophers in Us

It’s not even a long time ago, I visited my favourite bookstore. This time I found absolutely amazing letter/writing papers with black and white drawings of famous writers, actors, painters, or philosophers, and with their quotes.

Dopisní papíry

It was created by Czech publishing house that is called Krásná paní (Beautiful Lady). They publish quite nice stuff all the time, but this one mesmerized me the most.

In the package there are twelve yellowish lists. In every list there is a black and white drawing of famous artist on the right side, and more or less known philosophical quote on the left side.

Artists were drawn by Václav Teichmann, the first Czech caricaturist who succeed in the World Press Cartoon – prestigious contest for caricaturists. You want to see more brilliant Teichmann’s drawings? Please, click here.

In the letter papers you can find Franz Kafka, Samuel Beckett, G. B. Shaw, Rudolf Hrušínský (Czech acclaimed actor), Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, or Immanuel Kant.

For example Rudolf Hrušínský said: “Everyone should believe in something above him/her. He/she doesn’t have to, but he/she should. Because then it’s easier to find balance in life.” Another one? OK. Irish playwright G. B. Shaw said: “The only man who behaves sensibly is my tailor. It takes me peace every time I come.”

How gorgeous are these letter papers? I must say, I love the Teichmann’s caricature with Kafka and Jewish star the most. So, let’s just write a letter with Franz Kafka! By the way, a German-language writer of novels and short stories, who was born in Prague, and wrote The Trial or The Metamorphosis, once said: “In the struggle between yourself and the world, second the world.”
